Las revueltas antigubernamentales que se dieron de forma generalizada en el Norte de África y Oriente Medio en 2011 mostraron la fragilidad y creciente ruptura del contrato social heredado del siglo XX vigente en los países árabes. A su vez, tuvieron impacto más allá de las fronteras de cada Estado, amenazando con modificar el statu quo de la región, y con ello la posición hegemónica de Arabia Saudí en un entorno regional cada vez más discordante, inestable y líquido. Conocer el pasado y presente tanto de la política doméstica del Estado saudí como de su política exterior es fundamental para comprender la situación actual de la región y vislumbrar su futuro

The anti-government uprisings that were widespread in North Africa and the Middle East in 2011 showed the fragility and growing rupture of the social contract inherited from the 20th century in the Arab countries. In turn, they had an impact beyond the borders of each state, threatening to modify the status quo in the region, and with it Saudi Arabia's hegemonic position in an increasingly discordant, unstable and liquid regional environment. Knowing the past and present of both the domestic policy of the Saudi state and its foreign policy is essential to understanding the current situation of the region and envisaging its future.
