This article reviews some of the uses to which computers are commonly put in British schools. It considers the relative advantages and disadvantages of using computers for such purposes, in order that, after taking into account restrictions concerning finance and personnel, decisions may be made concerning allocation of computer resources within a school. It also suggests that local education authorities should consider providing more temporary resource support than is generally the case.
