En el estudio de la memoria escrita de las migraciones históricas a América desde el continente europeo en la época contemporánea, dos géneros discursivos sobresalen por su valor heurístico: las correspondencias y las historias de vida. Las investigaciones sobre ambos géneros promovidas desde el Centro de Estudios de la Emigración Castellana y Leonesa han pretendido enlazar con una larga tradición que no ha cesado de ramificarse.
