Beginning with the development of educational technology in the Education Department of South Australia, the Educational Technology Centre followed the field of communications by activity in their telecommunications trials projects. This led to the development of the DUCT system and a major project of application throughout the state. The trials have involved many styles of distance education which have themselves resulted in a more precise analysis of the requirements and cost‐effective nature of the benefits to education in the state of South Australia.
The analysis and overview, resulting from the trials and applications, has‐also led to a much clearer understanding of the place and management of educational technology in distance education. In discussing the interrelationships of these issues, this paper gives a prognosis of the development of educational technology in the field of distance education as a major force.
