Resumen de Thornton Wilder and Italy

Stephen J. Rojcewicz, Judith P. Hallett

  • español

Eight months of study at the American Academy in Rome (1920- 1921) and his friendship with Lauro de Bosis and his family profoundly influenced the American writer Thornton Wilder. Lauro’s example as a poet, dramatist, and Hellenist strengthened and seasoned the American’s engagement with ancient Greek literature. The impact of his professors, fellow students, and numerous social acquaintances resulted in novels and plays marked by multiple literary and cultural influences that are subtle, intricate, multi-layered, often indirect, and integrated with multiple ancient Greek, Roman, biblical, medieval, and modern sources.
