The genesis, evolution and present use of educational technology and learning resources are reviewed in the specific field of nurse education. Useful characteristics are mentioned and structures and strictures affecting growth identified. The way to the 1980s is delineated through examination of the possibilities and probabilities open to nursing.
Finally, this review is used to generate a crude model for questioning the present general application of educational technology. Although grounded in observation, experience and a research project which looked at resource‐based learning in nursing, the paper is more directed by the personal views, cares and concerns of the author.
