Objetivo. Presentamos la vida profesional de una enfermera que nos aporta importantes datos para comprender la historia sanitaria y profesional desde los años sesenta del siglo XX hasta la primera década del siglo XXI. Metodología. Como en trabajos anteriores, usamos la técnica del método biográfico. Resultados. Nuestra informante nació en Madrid, estudió enfermería pese a la inicial oposición de su padre, que quería que fuera abogada; alumna de la escuela Salus Infirmorum hizo las prácticas en el antiguo hospital de Atocha de Madrid, hoy centro cultural Reina Sofía, y el Hospital San Carlos, hoy Conservatorio de Madrid. De su variada etapa profesional destacamos su trabajo en la clínica Puerta de Hierro, en la que denunció que el dinero de los enfermos privados fuera solo para los médicos. Perteneció a la corriente socialista del Partido Socialista Popular del profesor Enrique Tierno Galván. Fue directora de Salud de la Asamblea de la Cruz Roja de Madrid y después pasó al Ministerio de Sanidad donde ejerció los últimos años como representante española en Comités Consultivos sobre formación de enfermeras y matronas de la U.E. Jubilada temprana por motivos familiares se dedica a la cooperación internacional en varios países árabes, siendo sus últimos trabajos en Egipto ayudando a la formación de enfermeras. Ha recibido la venera al mérito profesional otorgada por el Consejo General de Enfermería y la Cruz de Sanidad dada por el Ministerio de Sanidad. Sigue siendo una mujer apasionada por la vida en la que utiliza la frase de Santa Teresa "Cada día tiene su afán". Conclusiones. Enfermera en la que lo colectivo prima sobre lo individual como lo aprendió de su padre. Le apasiona la profesión enfermera como lo ha demostrado en todos sus trabajos a lo largo de su vida y ahora, en su activa jubilación

Aim. To present a nurse's professional life and analyse those aspects of her professional career which can add to our understanding of the history of nursing and healthcare in Spain from the 1960s to the first decade of the 21st century. Methodology. Data collection and analysis were guided by the biographical method. Results. Our interviewee was born in Madrid and studied nursing in spite of her father's initial opposition to his daughter's professional aspirations, as he wanted her to become a lawyer. As a student at the Salus Infirmorum Nursing School, Berta undertook her clinical placements at the former Hospital of Atocha of Madrid (currently the Reina Sofia Cultural Centre) and the Hospital San Carlos (today the Royal Conservatory of Madrid). Certain aspects of her varied professional life have been highlighted in this study. Whilst working as a nurse at the Puerta de Hierro Clinic, Berta publicly reported the fact that the fees collected from private patients were destined exclusively to the doctors. She subscribed to the socialist movement initiated by Enrique Tierno Galvan's Popular Socialist Party. Berta became Healthcare Director of the Red Cross Assembly of Madrid, and subsequently worked for the Ministry of Health as a Spanish representative at various Consultative Committees for the training of nurses and midwives in the European Union. She retired early due to family commitments and currently works as an International Cooperator at various Middle Eastern countries; one of her latest assignments was carried out in Egypt, where she helped organise nursing training. Berta was given an award in recognition of a lifetime of work and dedication to nursing by the General Nursing Council, and the Healthcare Cross awarded by the Ministry of Health. Today, she continues to live her life passionately and describes her experience of living in words of St Teresa of Avila: "life each day with eagerness". Conclusion: As she learnt from her farther, Berta demonstrated throughout her professional life that collective good must take priority over individual interest. She remains passionate about nursing, as demonstrated both during her career and now, as a very active retired nurse
