Resumen de The Colleges of Education Learning Programmes Project, an experiment in long term innovation

Clive Neville

  • The CELP Project was established to support the application of the principles and practice of educational technology to the education and training of teachers. The method chosen was the provision of services to facilitate the production, dissemination and use of ‘learning packages’ within the colleges and departments of education. The reasons for this emphasis on ‘learning packages’ are given, together with comments on the assumptions made at the Project's inception, and their modification during both the feasibility study and developmental stages.

Activities undertaken by the Project are described under the general headings of ‘information and consultancy services’, ‘workshops for tutorial staff and ‘production of learning materials’. The factors affecting the effectiveness of these activities, in changing tutors’ teaching methods and in promoting long‐term improvements in the methods of school teachers, are discussed.

The article ends by summarising the findings of a small scale independent evaluation of the Project.
