  • Research comparing individualized instruction with “traditional” instruction has proved largely worthless and no longer can be tolerated. It has been indicated that improvements in instruction will result only when researchers begin evaluating the separate variables comprising these multi‐faceted systems. The following review of research demonstrates the complexities involved with the’ variable of student‐control of learning.
