Resumen de Colecciones didácticas de la Comisión del Mapa Geológico de España en centros de enseñanza y en las Colecciones Reales del Patrimonio Nacional

  Se presentan las evidencias actuales de la ayuda prestada por la Comisión del Mapa Geológico de España, y sus instituciones sucesoras -el Instituto Geológico de España y el Instituto Geológico y Minero de España-, a los centros educativos a partir del último tercio del siglo XIX. Un Real Decreto publicado el 12 de febrero de 1888 encomendó a esta Comisión la remisión de colecciones geológicas a establecimientos de enseñanza para el apoyo de las enseñanzas geológicas y mineras. La ausencia de archivo histórico en el Instituto Geológico y Minero de España impedía conocer el alcance de esta cooperación, que se puede considerar una actividad pionera en la institución en relación con la difusión de las Ciencias de la Tierra a la sociedad. Mediante una intensa labor de investigación en la que se han manejado diversas fuentes, ha sido posible identificar algunas de estas colecciones. Y las que se conservan no suelen estar completas: en algunos casos solo se ha podido consultar el catálogo que acompañaba a las muestras. Pero se ha llegado a conocer las pautas de formación de las colecciones, así como la autoría de algunas de ellas. Se ha estudiado también la que fue remitida en 1902 al rey Alfonso XIII, que se conserva en las Colecciones Reales del Patrimonio Nacional. En ella se ha identificado uno de los tipos perdidos del rudista cretácico Hippuritella castroi (Vidal, 1874).

  The aid provided to schools by the Commission for the Geological Map of Spain, and its heir institutions -the Geological Institute of Spain and the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain- from the last third of the nineteenth century is presented. A Royal Decree published on February 12, 1888 entrusted the Commission to send geological collections to educational centers for the support of geological and mining teaching. The absence of a historical archive in the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain prevented us from knowing the scope of this cooperation, which can be considered as a pioneer activity of the Institute in the dissemination of Earth Sciences to society. Through intensive research work in which various sources have been managed, it has been possible to identify some of these collections. Not all of them are preserved in their entirety, and in some cases only the catalog that accompanied the samples is known. This research has allowed us to know the patterns of formation of the collections, as well as the authorship of some of them. It has also studied the one that was sent in 1902 to the King Alfonso XIII, which is currently preserved in the Royal National Heritage Collections. Among the specimens in this collection, one of the lost types of the Cretaceous rudist Hippuritella castroi (Vidal, 1874) has been identified.
