Ferromanganese deposits associated to the Cadiz Contourite Channel: imprints of the Mediterranean Outflow Water

  • Ferromanganese nodules fields were recently discovered associated to the Cadiz Contourite Channe lwithin the Gulf of Cadiz. Based on submarine photographic tracks, geophysical, mineralogical and geochemical evidences we propose a model for the genesis and evolution of aforementioned nodules. The interaction of the Mediterranean Outflow Water with the continental margin has determined the Late Pleistocene-Holocene ferromanganese mineral deposits formation, in parallel to the evolution of the contourite depositional system triggered by climatic events.
