  La presente investigación analiza la relación entre los actores de turismo de Riobamba respecto del desarrollo del destino como diferencial competitivo. Se realizaron entrevistas a los representantes de los sectores turísticos de Riobamba sobre los componentes del destino y un estudio descriptivo exploratorio con enfoque cualitativo; derivando como resultado que los elementos constitutivos del destino turístico aun no logran desarrollarse como componentes diferenciados debido a la escasa sinergia, investigación e innovación que impiden generar ventajas competitivas en el turismo local; además de la rudimentaria participación en la planificación turística que provoquen un ambiente favorable para el desarrollo del destino turístico; por lo que la falta de conocimiento y su gestión revelan el deficiente grado de sustentabilidad para la consolidación del diferencial competitivo y la puesta en valor de los componentes turísticos en la optimización del turismo.

  This current research analyzes the relationship among Riobamba tourism stakeholders and the development of tourism destination as competitive advantage. Intervies to them about the components of the tourism destination and a descriptive exploratory study with a qualitative approach were developed; the result was that the components of the tourism destination do not develop as distinct attractive still, because of the low sinergy, investigation and innovation, which are the major impediments to generate competitive advantages in local tourism; besides, the rudimentary participation on tourism planning to cause a favorable context for the development of the tourism destination, so that the lack of knowledge and its management reveal the poor degree of sustainability for the consolidation of competitive differential and the enhancement of the components of the tourism destination to optimize the whole system.
