El Directorio militar se apropió de la Unión Patriótica nacida en el seno de la A.C.M.P., dada su necesidad de poseer una base social y política a quien dejarle el gobierno una vez cumplidas las expectativas que dieron lugar al golpe de Estado del 13 de septiembre de 1923. En Mallorca, los inicios de esta nueva Corporación estuvieron plagados de altibajos, causados por la frecuente apatía generalizada y agravado por el empecinamiento de sus dirigentes en obligar a los afiliados a renunciar a sus antiguas ideologías políticas –mauristas, weyleristas–, lo que provocó un alud de dimisiones. Sus órganos directivos los integraron las oligarquías urbanas y rurales, adscritos a la Diputación provincial y a las Alcaldías.

The Patriotic Union was born from the military Directory itself, from its need to have a social and political base to whom to leave the government once the expectations that led to the coup d’etat of September 13, 1923 were fulfilled. In Mallorca, the beginnings of this new Corporation were plagued by ups and downs, caused by the frequent widespread apathy and aggravated by the stubbornness of its leaders in forcing members to renounce their old political ideologies –Maurist, Weyleristas–, which caused an avalanche of resignations. Its governing bodies were integrated by urban and rural oligarchies, attached to the Provincial Council and the Mayor’s Offices.
