Tonality in literature is often mentioned but barely treated, except by Frye. Yet it is possible to trace the history of confrontation with literary tonality, realize its link with the birth of phenomenology — and see in Aristotle's "Poetics", through its treatment of tonality, a phenomenological approach current structuralist doxa notwithstanding.
