  La hipertrofia mamaria es una alteración de las mamas en las que éstas presentan un tamaño anormalmente grande, es decir, un volumen mamario excesivo. Las pacientes con hipertrofia mamaria refieren diversa sintomatología en relación con el tamaño y el peso de sus mamas siendo el principal síntoma la dorsalgia cervical. Asimismo, existe una afectación psicológica y una alteración en las actividades cotidianas de la vida diaria que repercuten en su calidad de vida. La medición de la gravedad de estos síntomas y de las limitaciones sociales son fundamentales para orientar el tratamiento hacia la indicación de la cirugía. La mamoplastia reductiva como único tratamiento ha llegado a ser una cirugía de rutina con buenos resultados siendo la técnica de reducción mamaria vertical la más habitual al contar con cicatrices de menor tamaño y con una mejor estética. La complicación postoperatoria más frecuente es la dehiscencia anastomótica.

  Breast hypertrophy is an alteration of the breasts in which they have an abnormally large size, that is, an excessive breast volume. Patients with mammary hypertrophy refer to various symptoms in relation to the size and weight of their breasts, the main symptom being cervical back pain. Likewise, there is a psychological affectation and an alteration in the daily activities of daily life that affect their quality of life. Measurement of the severity of these symptoms and social limitations are essential to guide treatment towards the indication for surgery. Reductive mammoplasty as the only treatment has become a routine surgery with good results, with the vertical breast reduction technique being the most common as it has smaller scars and better aesthetics. The most common postoperative complication is anastomotic dehiscence.
