  • Since its foundation Barcino has had a complex water supply system, that goes from the collection of water from a source near the river Besós, to the distribution within the city, where one also finds structures regarding the management of wastewater. This water cycle, planned in the time of Octavius Augustus, has survived and evolved throughout the imperial period, having undergone significant renovations and design in Late Antiquity, but which have not affect the supply of drinking water that reached the city, as throughout the 4th century several private balnea were built, and later on the bath in the bishop’s palace.
