Las minas “San Manuel” y “La Despreciada” están ubicadas cerca de Alumbres, en la Sierra de Cartagena, y cerca de la mina “San Camilo”. Estas minas fueron trabajadas desde finales del siglo XIX hasta principios del XX.
Un grupo de coleccionistas locales (autodenominado “Las cinco P”) exploraron la mina “San Manuel” entre 1998 y 2001, y la mina “La Despreciada” en los años 2017 y 2018. Los autores, en este artículo, describen la historia de ambas minas y su investigación para ubicarlas en dos períodos diferentes.
Aunque las concesiones son contiguas, muestran algunas diferencias en la mineralización explotada históricamente de manera industrial: la “San Manuel” se trabajó para obtener galena, hematites y, en las últimas etapas, baritina, y “La Despreciada” lo fue para hematites y baritina.

The mines of San Manuel and La Despreciada are located near the town of Alumbres in the Sierra de Cartagena, and near the famous San Camilo mine. These mines were worked since the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
A group of local collectors (self-named the five P's) have explored the San Manuel mine between 1998 and 2001;
and La Despreciada mine in 2017 and 2018.
The authors, in this article, describe the mining history of both mines and their research to locate them in two different periods.
Although the concessions are contiguous, they show some differences in the mineralization exploited historically in an industrial way; San Manuel was worked to obtain galena, hematite and in the last stages barite, and La Despreciada was it for hematite and barite.
