El yacimiento de Monte Bernorio (Palencia) se caracteriza por su estratégica situación geográfica y por haber sido un emplazamiento militar en dos momentos diferentes de la Historia, distanciados por dos mil años. Primero, en el siglo I a. C. durante la Edad de Hierro, este oppidum tuvo un papel fundamental en las campañas militares del Emperador Cesar Augusto en las “Guerras Cántabras”. Segundo, este enclave volvió a ser relevante en las operaciones militares que los bandos “Republicano” y “Nacional” sostuvieron por el control de la zona durante la Guerra Civil española en su 1ª fase (1936- 37) con el “Frente Norte”. Se presentan los resultados obtenidos en base a la investigación del contexto histórico y documental sobre este periodo, así como el estudio e interpretación del registro material arqueológico.

The site of Monte Bernorio (Palencia) is characterized by its strategic geographical situation. Also for has been a military site in two different moments of History, distanced by two thousand years. First, in the 1st century BC during the Iron Age, this oppidum played a fundamental role in the military campaigns of the Emperor Cesar Augustus in the "Cantabrian Wars". Secondly, this enclave returned to be relevant in the military operations that the "Republican" and "National" sides maintained for the control of the zone during the Spanish Civil War in its 1st phase (1936-37) with the "Northern Front". The results obtained are presented based on the historical and documentary research on this period, as well as the study and interpretation of the archaeological material record.
