    En el presente artículo se procederá a realizar una explicación sintética del contexto en que se encontraba el Reino visigodo del siglo VII, así como las estrategias seguidas por los musulmanes para la conquista de la Península Ibérica. No se entrará a una posible solución del totum revolutum que suponen las continuas contradicciones y ausencias en las fuentes y en la historiografía al respecto de los sucesivos reinados y acontecimientos. En último lugar, intentaremos alejarnos del relato tradicional sobre la decadencia moral y organizativa del reino visigodo de Toledo que, a pesar de existir en parte, es más propia de una historiografía franquista que trataba de explicar así la conquista. Trataremos, en definitiva, de enseñar una realidad compleja donde los propios visigodos tuvieron mucho que decir en ambos bandos.

    In this article we will proceed to make a synthetic explanation of the context in which the Visigothic Kingdom of the 7th century was, as well as the strategies followed by the Muslims for the conquest of the Iberian Peninsula. We will not enter into a possible solution of the totum revolutum that the continuous contradictions and absences in the sources and in the historiography suppose regarding the successive reigns and events. Lastly, we will try to get away from the traditional story about the moral and organizational decadence of the Visigoth kingdom of Toledo, which, despite existing in part, is more typical of a Francoist historiography that tried to explain the conquest in this way. In short, we will try to show a complex reality where the Visigoths themselves had a lot to say on both sides.
