    El campamento militar fue un fenómeno que evolucionó durante la Edad Media a partir de bases tardorromanas y que perduró en el tiempo traspasando el límite de este trabajo, hasta llegar a la Edad Contemporánea. Encuadrado en el reino castellanoleonés entre los siglos XI y XIII, analizamos aquí dos aspectos básicos de la castrametación, empleando para ello varios tipos de fuentes. El trazado, la estructura y las teorías de la castrametación constituyen los aspectos clave que abordamos, siempre contextualizados en la guerra medieval.

    The military camp was a practice which evolved during the Middle Ages from a late roman basis and lasted in time longer than the upper limit of our research, until the Contemporary Age. This work is contextualized in the Castile and Leon kingdoms between the XIth and XIIIth centuries, in which we analyze two basic aspects of the castrametation, using a variety of sources. The designing, the organization, and the theories of the castrametation are the main topics that we will address in this article, and they will be properly allocated in the Medieval Warfare frame.
