The dissemination and circulation of canonical collections from the first Middle Ages are not well known. The history of libraries is, in fact, poorly documented, as the sources are so scarce. The Abbey of Saint-Martial in Limoges, however, escapes this observation. Its numerous catalogs allow us to reconstruct the initial state of its library and to apprehend the movements of diffusion and circulation of canonical manuscripts.

La diffusion et la circulation des collections canoniques du premier Moyen Âge sont assez méconnues. L’histoire des bibliothèques est, en effet, assez peu documentée, tant les sources sont rares. L’abbaye Saint-Martial de Limoges échappe cependant à ce constat. Ses nombreux catalogues permettent de reconstituer l’état initial de sa bibliothèque et d’appréhender les mouvements de diffusion et de circulation des manuscrits canoniques.
