This study investigates the relationships between social groups and motivations for attending an international European festival. It presents a theoretical model for explaining this relationship and a study that tests the model. The findings indicate that family groups attend the event to consolidate family togetherness while friendship groups emphasize socialization and group togetherness. No distinct motivational features account for couples’ attendance at festivals.
