    ¿Quién no defiende la equidad en educación? Aunque todos estamos de acuerdo, la polémica es inevitable cuando se intenta concretar qué quiere decir equidad. ¿Mejorar el rendimiento educativo del alumno con más desventaja social?, ¿que haya pocas diferencias educativas entre las personas de más alto y bajo nivel social?, ¿prohibir o permitir el hijab en las aulas?... Entender por qué hay tantas formas de aproximarse a la equidad es uno de los objetivos de este libro. Pero no se queda en lo abstracto, sino que también diagnostica el estado de la equidad en nuestro sistema educativo. Para ello, el autor realiza un esfuerzo por clarificar la confusión que reina en el debate sobre la educación en España. Mediante el rigor argumental y el análisis de las principales fuentes de datos, presenta una explicación de la falta de equidad y realiza propuestas de mejora. Además, dedica especial atención a la paradoja de que, a pesar de la gravedad de la crisis, los principales indicadores educativos permanecen estables o mejoran (algo que ya aventuramos algunos hace algún tiempo). Así, el libro adquiere una carácter didáctico que ofrece al lector no especializado las claves para posicionarse en el debate y para valorar las diversas políticas educativas aportado una mirada lo más limpia posible sobre la equidad educativa que huya de la hojarasca especulativa, vacía y retórica de los distorsionados debates educativos, tan frecuentes en la sociedad actual, en los mass media y en la jerga académica cientifista que no necesariamente científica.

    Who does not defend equity in education? Although we all agree about that topic, the discussion is unavoidable when somebody tries to specify what equity means. Does it mean improving the educational performance of students with the most social disadvantage? Does it mean there are a few educational differences between people of higher and lower social levels? Does it mean forbidding or allowing wearing the hijab at schools? One of the objectives of this book is to understand why there are so many ways to approach what equity is. In the book, equity does not only remain in an abstract meaning, but the book also diagnoses the state of equity in our educational system. Then, the author makes an effort to clarify the mess that exists in the discussion about education in Spain. The author also presents an explanation about the lack of equity and makes proposals for improvement, through accurate arguments as well as the analysis of the main data sources.

    Moreover, the author pays special attention to the paradox that, despite the severity of the crisis, the main educational indicators have been remaining stable or they have improved (this is something that some people had already predicted some time ago). Thus, the book is a didactic approach for non-specialized readers that offers some keys to understand the main topics of the discussion, as well as to value the different educational policies. These informations are shown from an objective point of view about equity in education and not from speculation, nor empty and rethorical educational discussions, that are nowadays frequent in society, in mass media and in the scientist and academic slang that is not exactly scientific language.
