Resumen de Travel Motivation of Heritage Tourists

Joseph S. Chen

  • The objective of this study was to examine the travel motivation of heritage tourists. A series of on-site surveys was conducted at a heritage park in 1996. One hundred and forty-one useful samples were collected during the surveys. Through a factor analysis, two motivational dimensions, labeled personal benefit and knowledge pursuit, emerged from seven motivational attributes. From the results of MANOVA, the study revealed knowledge pursuit as a motivation factor for heritage tourism as a function of different travel experiences. Future research should focus on the stability of motivations for heritage tourism, and markets based on heritage tourism need to be identified.
