This article presents the results of a study on a group of German nouns belonging to the semantic field of feelings, examining their syntactic and semantic levels of valency. It also includes a contrastive analysis with their spanish counterparts. These intralingual and interlingual analyses revealed that these nouns share many properties, which allow us to establish a regularity in that semantic field for both languages. Taking into account the existing niche in the literature devoted to noun valency, it is the aim of this paper to demonstrate the importance of the incorporation of the semantic field of feelings into Foreign Language Teaching, i.e. into grammars, textbooks and reference books.
