German function verb structures (e.g. in Bewegung setzen) and Spanish pseudocopula constructions (poner en movimiento) have formal and semantic similarities, but they occupy different positions within the system of each language. This should be taken into account in any comparative grammaticographic undertaking. German and Spanish differ in the relative development of their systems of function verbs and pseudocopulas. While there is extensive research published on German function verb structures, including their application and in particular their treatment in foreign language teaching, there is a great deal of work to be done on most aspects of Spanish pseudocopula constructions.
