Desenvolvimento turístico sustentável no interior de Algarve (Portugal): o caso da Via Algarviana

    The promotion of natural and cultural resources are present in rural areas for tourism. This is an essential element for the sustainable development of the rural areas. The routes are valid alternatives for sustainable development in those areas, generally more depressed and underdeveloped.

    The purpose of this study is to evaluate the contribution of the Via Algarviana for the sustainable development of the interior of the Algarve (Portugal), an initiative promoted by the Association for the defence of the Cultural and environmental Heritage of the Algarve (ALMARGEM), In this sense we analyse tourist sustainability of these areas, as well as the relationship with sports, namely hiking or cycling, and the impact and the peculiarities of the Via Algarviana to the destination.

    The result of this research summarizes and describes the Via Algarviana whose value contributes to the development of tourism, based on the respect to natural and rural environment and allows to use this experience as a reference for sustainable management of tourist destinations of the inland areas.

    A promoção dos recursos naturais e culturais presentes no meio rural com vista ao turismo, é um elemento essencial para o desenvolvimento sustentável destes locais. Nesse sentido, as rotas situadas no interior surgem como alternativas para o desenvolvimento sustentável em áreas geralmente mais deprimidas e pouco desenvolvidas.

    O objetivo do presente trabalho é avaliar a contribuição da "Via Algarviana", iniciativa promovida pela Associação de Defesa do Património Cultural e Ambiental do Algarve (ALMARGEM), para o desenvolvimento sustentável do interior do Algarve (Portugal). Neste sentido analisamos a sustentabilidade turística destes territórios, bem como a sua relação com a prática de modalidades como o pedestrianismo ou o cicloturismo e ainda o impacto e as peculiaridades da Via Algarviana para o destino.

    O resultado desta pesquisa sintetiza e descreve a Via Algarviana cujo valor contribui para o desenvolvimento turístico assente no respeito pelo meio natural e rural e permite usar essa experiência como referência para a gestão sustentável dos destinos turísticos do interior.
