    L’Institut Biològic de Sarrià, situat al coŀlegi Sant Ignasi - Jesuïtes de Sarrià de Barcelona, estigué actiu entre 1931 i 1965, i fou conegut arreu de l’estat espanyol i Europa pels seus estudis pioners en embriologia. Tenia diferents línies d’estudi, i fou després de la guerra civil espanyola (1936-1939) quan la botànica hi reprengué força de la mà del P. Jaume Capell SJ, el qual en fou el principal responsable i formà l’herbari que actualment es conserva en el mateix col·legi. L’herbari consta de 3.853 exemplars, molts dels quals relaten la història i la tasca botànica que els jesuïtes dugueren a terme a meitat del segle XX. L’herbari conté diferents exsiccata com les de l’«Herbario de Frère Sennen», «Plantes d’Espagne», «Herbario escolar del Jardín Botánico de Madrid» i duplicats de l’herbari de l’Institut Botànic de Barcelona. L’aprofundiment en l’estudi d’aquesta coŀlecció revela la presència de plecs interessants des del punt de vista taxonòmic –Baccharis ×itapetiningae Malag., Valeriana longiflora Willk. var. eu-longiflora Capell & A.Bolòs i Carduus gayanus Durieu ex Willk. var. capellii Cámara– i una primera citació a la península Ibèrica –Fimbristylis turkestanica (Regel) B.Fedtsch.–, a més de plecs amb informació d’interès etnobotànic

    The Biological Institute of Sarrià, located in the Sant Ignasi (Jesuits of Sarrià school in Barcelona), was active between 1931 and 1965, and was known throughout Spain and Europe for its pioneering studies in embryology. They had different lines of study, and it was after the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) when botany was resumed by Fr. Jaume Capell SJ, who was the main person responsible of the herbarium that currently it is conserved in the same school. The herbarium consists of 3,853 specimens, many of which explain the history and botanical work of the Jesuits in the mid-20th century. The herbarium contains different exsiccata as the «Herbario de Frère Sennen», «Plantes d’Espagne», «Herbario escolar del Jardín Botánico de Madrid» and duplicates from the herbarium of Institut Botànic de Barcelona. The study of this collection reveals the presence of interesting specimens from the taxonomic point of view –Baccharis ×itapetiningae Malag., Valeriana longiflora Willk. var. eu-longiflora Capell & A.Bolòs and Carduus gayanus Durieu ex Willk. var. capellii Cámara– and a first citation in the Iberian Peninsula –Fimbristylis turkestanica (Regel) B.Fedtsch.–, as well as sheets with information of ethnobotanical interest
