El amor es un estado afectivo que nos ha interesado desde el nacimiento de la humanidad, cuya concepción ha cambiado a través de las culturas. Este trabajo pretende precisar el concepto de amor que manejamos hoy, en la cultura del siglo XXI. Nos centramos en el amor de pareja, y lo contrastamos con el enamoramiento, como forma inicial aunque transitoria. Demostramos cómo es necesario este primer estadio, para luego pasar al amor sexual maduro, estado afectivo que hace posible el amor a largo plazo o para toda la vida.

Love is an emotional state in which we have been interested since the start of humanity. Its conception changes depending on the culture. This paper endeavors to narrow down the concept of love as we know it today, in the culture of the 21st century. The focus is on love for one’s mate as compared to the initial, yet transitory feeling of falling in love. The paper first demonstrates how this first stage is a necessity in order to then transition to a mature sexual love, an emotional state that makes long-term or lifelong love possible
