We believe that labeling is a task that has no intrinsic value. Thus, our aim here is not to define whether to classify Foucault as a structuralist philosopher is right or wrong, but to use this inquiry to explore in what sense the author approaches and in what sense he moves away from structuralism. Thus, the main goal of the article is to explore, elucidate and problematize some specific points, such as the philosophy of the subject, the discontinuous view of history, the analysis of transformations and the genealogical method. It may be possible to understand Foucault's thinking as sufficiently original and autonomous, without being necessary to reject his ties with the thought of his time.

Acreditamos que rotular é uma tarefa que não possui valor intrínseco. Dessa forma, nosso objetivo aqui não consiste em definir se classificar Foucault como um filósofo estruturalista está certo ou errado, mas utilizar-se desta indagação para explorar em que sentido o autor se aproxima e em que sentido se afasta do estruturalismo. Assim, a principal meta do artigo é explorar, elucidar e problematizar alguns pontos específicos, como a filosofia do sujeito, a visão descontínua da história, a análise das transformações e o método genealógico. Talvez seja possível entender o pensamento de Foucault como suficientemente original e autônomo, sem que com isso seja necessário rejeitar seus vínculos com o pensamento de seu tempo.
