Resumen de Libertad negativa y positiva en On Liberty

  Este texto analiza y compara dos obras fundamentales del liberalismo moderno, Sobre la Libertad de J.S. Mill y Dos conceptos de libertad de I. Berlin con el objetivo de comprender sus ideas acerca de la libertad. Para ello, en primer lugar, y dado las confusiones respecto al término, se aclara brevemente el significado de “liberalismo” y se contextualiza el pensamiento y la obra de los dos autores. A continuación se analiza el lugar que ocupa en la obra de J. S. Mill el concepto de libertad negativa, que se asocia a la visión pluralista que ambos autores comparten de los valores y, en el caso de Mill, ligado especialmente al valor que otorga a la individualidad. Por último, nos acercamos al concepto de libertad positiva y apuntamos que Berlin interpreta de forma cuestionable a Mill cuando le considera como un defensor exclusivo de la libertad negativa, interpretación que creemos se debe a un anacronismo

  This text analyzes and compares two fundamental works of modern liberalism, On Liberty by J.S. Mill and Two Concepts of Liberty by I. Berlin in order to understand their ideas about liberty. This paper is structured as follows: first, and given the confusion regarding the term “liberalism”, I briefly clarify its meaning and the thought and work of the two authors is contextualized. Then I analyze the place that the concept of negative liberty occupies in the work of J.S. Mill, which is associated with the pluralistic vision of values that both authors share and, in the case of Mill, especially linked to the value he places on individuality. Finally, I approach the concept of positive freedom and point out that Berlin interprets Mill in a questionable way when he considers him as an exclusive defender of negative freedom, an interpretation that we believe is due to an anachronism
