Los pueblos indígenas, a través de sus instituciones, organizaciones y representantes, han sido un actor extraordinariamente activo en el sistema multilateral de las Naciones Unidas en las últimas décadas. Este artículo resumirá brevemente la historia de la participación indígena en la ONU en defensa de sus derechos humanos fundamentales y sus objetivos, resultados y dificultades.

Indigenous peoples, through their own institutions, organizations and representatives, have been outstanding and active participants within the United Nations multilateral system for the last decades. The article summarizes the history, objectives, achievements and obstacles of the Indigenous participation within the UN for the defence of their fundamental human rights.
