    La salud de la mujer durante el embarazo y el resultado en el recién nacido dependen en gran medida del estado de salud previo a la concepción. Por ello, el consejo reproductivo antes de la gestación es un importante aspecto de la asistencia prenatal. Su principal objetivo es evaluar el riesgo y ayudar a la mujer a alcanzar las mejores condiciones posibles respecto a su salud en el momento de comenzar el embarazo. La matrona, como figura de referencia en la vida sexual y reproductiva de la mujer, es el profesional indicado para ayudar a las mujeres y a sus parejas a lograr este objetivo, junto con la colaboración de otros profesionales en el momento que se necesite.

    Women’s health during the pregnancy and the results in the baby depend greatly in the health condition before the conception. That’s why preconception care before pregnancy is an important part of reproductive advice. Its main objective is the risk evaluation and helping the woman to reach the best conditions about her health at the time of starting the pregnancy. The midwife, as a reference figure in the women’s sexual and reproductive health, is the appropriate professional to help women and their partners to reach this objective, with the collaboration of other professionals when they are required.
