Resumen de Las Bibliotecas conventuales de la Orden de los Carmelitas Descalzos en España: Siglos XVI al XXI

Desde el origen de la reforma carmelitana en 1562, sus impulsores, santa Teresa de Jesús y san Juan de la Cruz, inculcaron a los miembros de la Orden la necesidad de adquirir una formación sólida y permanente sobre la que edificar una experiencia espiritual y un compromiso eclesial que estuviera a la altura del momento histórico que enfrentaba la Iglesia Católica en aquellos momentos. Con este objetivo aparecenlas primeras bibliotecas conventuales, que en los siglos siguientes servirán de catalizador formativo y cultural de las comunidades. En este proceso, reconocemos la importancia de la figura, discreta pero esencial, del bibliotecario, que tendrá la responsabilidad de seleccionar, adquirir y conservar aquellos volúmenes, demuy diversa temática, que en cada momento mejor respondan a las necesidades formativas de los frailes y las monjas carmelitas descalzas, y que terminarán configurando el extraordinario fondo bibliográfico que hoy atesora la Orden. Nuestro trabajo también aborda el momento actual de ese legado, y la gestión que laOCD está llevando a cabo para su correcta difusión, en colaboración con investigadores, entidades públicas y universidades, aprovechando las oportunidades que nos brindan las nuevas tecnologías, sin perder de vista la esencia teresiana y sanjuanista de la que venimos.

From the very beginning of the Carmelite Reform in 1562, its prime drivers, Saint Teresa of Avila and Saint John of the Cross, instilled in the members of the Order the need to acquire a solid and ongoing education. This would serve as the basis to build up a spiritual experience and an ecclesial commitment that lived up to the historial moment the Catholic Church was facing at that time. With this purpose the first conventual libraries appear, and in the following centuries they will be the cultural and educational cause of change for the communities. In this process, we must value the discreet bus essential importance of the librarian,who will be responsible for selecting, acquiring an conserving volumes of very diverse nature, that at all times, better respond to the educational needs of the friars and the Discalced Carmelites nuns and the will ultimately shape the extraordinary bibliographic fund that the Order amasses today. Our work also addresses the present moment of that legacy, and the process that ODC is carrying our for its correct diffusion, in collaboration with researchers, public entities and universities, making use of the opportunities offered by new technologies, without losing sight of the essence of Saint Teresa of Avila and Saint Johnof the Cross we come from.
