    El presente artículo muestra la relación entre el Perfil Socioeconómico y la Inteligencia Emocional de los estudiantes que ingresaron al Instituto Universitario de Tecnología de Cabimas, Venezuela. La metodología fue cuantitativa con diseño correlacional. La población estuvo conformada por 128 estudiantes, de las especialidades Técnico Superior en Administración de Empresas y Administración del Mantenimiento. Los datos se recolectaron a través de dos cuestionarios: Estratificación Socioeconómica y para la Inteligencia Emocional, elaborado por la autora. Los datos fueron analizados mediante estadística descriptiva y correlativa. Los resultados demostraron que los estudiantes que ingresaron al tecnológico pertenecen en promedio al estrato social medio-bajo, y que un 51,56% tiene un nivel de Inteligencia Emocional Alto. Se observaron tendencias al correlacionar las dimensiones en distintos estratos: particularmente en el grupo de estudiantes que trabajan pertenecientes al estrato Pobreza Crítica, donde se encontró una cercana correspondencia entre el Perfil Socioeconómico y la dimensión Autocontrol.Palabras clave: Inteligencia Emocional, Perfil Socioeconómico, Instituto de Educación Superior.

    The present showed the relation between the Socioeconomic Profile and the Emotional Intelligence in the students of INSTITUTO UNIVERSITARIO DE TECNOLOGÍA. This objective is assumed in a descriptive fashion and through a correlational design. The population was made up by 128 entering students attending the specializations in Maintenance Management and Business Management. The technique used to collect the data was the filling of questionnaires by the subjects, to measure the SEP variable the Socioeconomic Stratification Method was used, and the questionnaire made was constructed by the author used. The resulting data was then reunited and analyzed through descriptive statistical parameters and statistically significative correlations. These results showed that the students entering the institute belong in average to the medium-low stratum, and that a 51,56% of such population has a level of presence of Emotional Intelligence assessed as High. Important tendencies were observed when correlating their dimensions in different strata and categories: particularly in the group made up by working students from the Critical Poverty stratum, where a close correspondence was found between SEP and Self-control dimension (EI).Keywords: Emotional Intelligence, Socioeconomic Stratum, Higher Education Institute.
