    En sentido holístico, la salud consiste en una adaptación exitosa al medio. A esto Illiich le añade que no sólo incluye el bienestar sino también el poder manejar el sufrimiento y la angustia. Pero a la hora de definir la enfermedad tendríamos que tener en cuenta la dimensión social de la misma (sickness): el resultado de estar definidos por los demás como enfermo y no poder realizar las funciones sociales correspondientes. Existen enfermedades consideradas socialmente como "las peores", el Cáncer es una de ellas. Aquí trataré de narrar la vivencia de una familia donde a uno de sus miembros le diagnosticaron esta enfermedad, sus vivencias y temores, su aislamiento social y su duelo anticipado

    In a holistic sense, health consists of a successful adaptation to one´s environment. According to Illich, it does not only include welfare but also the power of handling both suffering and anguish. However, when defining illness we should bear in mind its social dimension, the socalled "Sickness" - the meaning of the term having undergone a restriction and specialization in the sociological jargon- i.e. the result of being considered sick by others and not to be able to carry out the corresponding social functions. Some illnesses are socially regarded as "the worst", cancer being one of theam. In the present piece of work I´ll try to relate the experience of a particular family, one of their members having being diagnosed as having the above-mentioned illness: their distress, social isolation and anticipated mourning
