Resumen de O aborto (1893), de Figueiredo Pimentel: um romance esquecido

Neste estudo, pretende-se investigar um recorte da literatura licenciosa do século XIX no Brasil, com ênfase no romance naturalista O aborto (1893), de Figueiredo Pimentel (1869-1914). Para tanto, este artigo perpassa sobre os livros pornográficos encontrados na biblioteca pessoal de Mário, um dos protagonistas da narrativa, além de mostrar a personagem Maricota como uma mulher viril e dona seu próprio corpo e sexualidade. Ademais, almeja-se também ajudar a melhor clarificar a atuação de Figueiredo Pimentel no mercado literário e jornalístico de sua época, mostrando que a produção desse autor se expande além da literatura infantil, pela qual é mais amplamente conhecido.

In this study, we intend to investigate the licentious literature of the 19th century in Brazil, emphasising the naturalist novel O aborto (1983), by Figueiredo Pimentel (1869-1914). Thus, this article goes through the pornographic books found in Mario’s personal library, one of the protagonists of the narrative, and shows the character Maricota as a virile woman who owns her own body and sexuality. Furthermore, we also aim to help to clarify the performance of Figueiredo Pimentel in the literary and journalistic market of his time, showing that the production of this author expands beyond the children’s literature, by which he is more widely known
