    Al iniciarse la guerra civil española el conflicto se internacionalizó desde un punto de vista humanitario. La colaboración de la sociedad de Estados Unidos se canalizó a través de distintos organismos. En este trabajo se aborda la prestación de ayuda humanitaria de los católicos estadounidenses a través de una institución concreta, America Spanish Relief Fund y la labor de uno de sus miembros más activos, Hildreth Meière. Mediante la bibliografía general sobre la participación y el papel de Estados Unidos ante el conflicto español y la documentación conservada en el Archivo del Padre Talbot en Georgetown University y el archivo personal de Hildreth Meière en Archives of American Art de Smithsonian Institution en Washington, se analiza cómo se desarrollaron las actividades humanitarias de los católicos estadounidenses preferentemente en España y los criterios de distribución de ayudas y qué importancia tuvieron las campañas propagandísticas que se vinculaban a los objetivos humanitarios.

    From the beginning of the Spanish civil war the conflict was international from a humanitarian point of view. The collaboration of United States society was channeled through different organizations. This paper addresses the humanitarian aid of American Catholics through a specific organization, America Spanish Relief Fund, and the work of one of its most active members, Hildreth Meière. Drawing from the general references on the participation and role of the United States in the Spanish conflict, as well as the documentation preserved in the Father Talbot Archive at Georgetown University and the personal archives of Hildreth Meière from the Archives of American Art in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, it is shown how the humanitarian activities of American Catholics were developed in Spain and what criteria was used for the distribution of resources. It also highlights the importance of the propaganda campaigns linked to humanitarian objectives.
