Resumen de Actitudes de estudiantes de Enfermería ante el enfermo mental

  Se decidió realizar esta investigación tras la percepción de la existencia de actitudes negativas hacia el enfermo mental y la falta de estudio de éstas en los estudiantes de enfermería.

  Objetivo. La presente investigación se ha realizado con el fin de determinar las actitudes y percepciones de estudiantes de Enfermería hacia el enfermo mental.

  Metodología. En este estudio, que fue llevado a cabo entre los meses de abril y junio de 2011, participaron 197 estudiantes de Enfermería de la Universidad de Barcelona. Como instrumento para la recogida de datos, se utilizó el cuestionario de actitud ante la enfermedad mental de Cohen y Struening, modificado por Ng y Chan.

  Resultados. Estos muestran, en general, una actitud respetuosa y abierta hacia el enfermo mental, en situaciones en las que el encuestado no se ve involucrado directamente. Por otro lado, también permanece un sentimiento de rechazo basado en la creencia de un factor peligroso e impredecible patente en su personalidad.

  Discusión y conclusiones. Los estudiantes presentan una actitud contradictoria hacia el enfermo mental.

  It was decided to conduct this research after assessing the perception of the existence of negative attitudes among nursing students and the absence of research about such attitudes.

  Objective. This research was conducted in order to determine the attitudes and perceptions of nursing students in relation to people with mental diseases.

  Methodology. The study was carried out between April and June 2011. It included 197 nursing students from the University of Barcelona. The Cohen and Struening questionnaire about attitudes towards mental illness, modified by Ng and Chan, were used to collect data.

  Results. In general, the results show a respectful and open minded attitude towards the mental patient in situations where the survey respondent is not directly involved. On the other hand, there's still a remaining feeling of rejection based on the belief of a dangerous and unpredictable factor in his personality.

  Discussion and conclusions. Students present are holding contradictory opinions toward the mentally ill.
