Propriedades sintático-semânticas das exclamativas-wh: categorias, hierarquias e derivações

    By assuming the cartographic version of the Principles and Parameters Theory (cf. RIZZI, 1997, 2004a, b; CINQUE, 1999, 2004, 2013, 2017; BENINCÀ;

    MUNARO, 2011; etc.), this study turns to a description of Brazilian Portuguese (BP) wh-exclamatives. The definition of this sentential type involves a series of properties that, at first glance, seem to vary according to the approach adopted. That makes it necessary to map, more precisely and comprehensively, the conceptual features involved in wh-exclamatives. These features are generally identified with certain functional projections, following the guideline of the One Feature One Head principle (KAYNE, 2005), which postulates, for each feature of the conceptual system, a unique functional category in the syntactic hierarchy. We propose a systematization of the properties listed by the literature, given the methodology of the Syntactic Cartography – especially the co-occurrence tests with elements allegedly belonging to the same category (TESCARI NETO, 2019) – to determine (i) the categories that would be involved in the expression of the wh-exclamativity and (ii) the position of these categories in the sentential hierarchy. Based on syntactic tests developed for BP, we argue that ForceP, MirativeP, EvaluativeP, EvidentialP, CircumstatialP (or DemP) are involved in the derivation of all types of wh-exclamatives. These projections value, each one, the features of force mirativity, evaluation, evidentiality/referentiality, and indexicality, respectively. The degree feature – related to the DegP of the left-periphery – would only be valued by quanto-exclamatives and que-exclamatives, but not by como- exclamatives.

    Assumindo a vertente cartográfica da Teoria de Princípios e Parâmetros da Gramática Gerativa (cf. RIZZI, 1997, 2004a, 2005 b; CINQUE, 1999, 2004, 2013, 2017; BENINCÀ; MUNARO, 2011; entre outros), o presente estudo se volta a uma descrição das sentenças exclamativas-wh do português brasileiro (PB). A definição desse tipo sentencial envolve uma série de propriedades que, à primeira vista, parecem variar de acordo com a abordagem adotada, tornando necessário um mapeamento mais preciso e abrangente dos traços conceituais envolvidos nessa construção. Essas categorias são geralmente identificadas com certas projeções funcionais, seguindo a diretriz do princípio One Feature One Head (KAYNE, 2005), que postula, para cada traço do sistema conceitual, uma categoria funcional única na hierarquia sintática.

    Dessa forma, propomos uma sistematização das propriedades elencadas pela literatura, seguindo a metodologia da Cartografia Sintática – sobretudo os testes de coocorrência com elementos supostamente pertencentes à mesma categoria (TESCARI NETO, 2019) –, para determinar as categorias que estariam envolvidas na expressão da exclamatividade-wh e a posição dessas categorias na hierarquia oracional. Com base em testes sintáticos desenvolvidos para o PB, argumentamos que as projeções ForceP, MirativeP, EvaluativeP, EvidentialP, CircumstatialP (ou DemP) seriam acionadas na derivação de todos os tipos de exclamativas-wh para serem valorados, respectivamente, os traços de força, miratividade, avaliação, evidencialidade/ referencialidade e indexicalidade.
