El valor de la especialización periodística en la información sobre África subsahariana

    Pese a la cercanía entre España y África, las informaciones sobre el continente en los grandes medios generalistas españoles quedan relegadas frecuentemente a noticias impactantes vinculadas a guerras, conflictos étnicos o hambrunas. La imagen proyectada de la población de África Subsahariana, protagonista de parte de los movimientos migratorios hacia Europa a través de la frontera sur, es la de un conjunto de individuos generalmente pasivos acostumbrados a convivir con violaciones de derechos humanos. Esta simplificación contrasta con el esfuerzo de periodistas y medios de nicho que aumentan los enfoques sobre el continente. A través de una metodología cuantitativa y cualitativa, la presente investigación se enfoca en el estudio de la revista Mundo Negro, la publicación más veterana sobre África Subsahariana en España, y de las particularidades del tratamiento informativo hacia sus habitantes, bajo la premisa del papel de los medios en la construcción del imaginario sobre personas racializadas.

    Despite the proximity between Spain and Africa, the information about the continent in the large Spanish generalist media is frequently relegated to shocking news related to wars, ethnic conflicts or famines. The image of the population of Sub-Saharan Africa, protagonist of part of the migratory movements to Europe through the southern border, is projected as a group of generally passive individuals accustomed to living with human rights violations. This simplification contrasts with the efforts of journalists and niche media that increase their focus on the continent. Through a quantitative and qualitative methodology, this research focuses on the study of Mundo Negro magazine, the most veteran publication about Sub-Saharan Africa in Spain, and the particularities of the informative treatment of its inhabitants, under the premise of the role that have the media in the construction of the imaginary about racialized people.
