Resumen de La trilogía del proceso de la discapacidad: (II) No oir

  El presente trabajo forma parte de una trilogía de artículos en la que se verá en detalle cada una de las tres etapas del proceso social de la discapacidad, ahondando en el concepto que se tenía/tiene de la misma en cada época y los términos con los que se designaba/designa a las personas portadoras de esa condición. Veremos que todo esto justificaba, y sigue justificando, las prácticas a las que este colectivo se ve sometido, siempre acordes a una determinada norma social imperante en cada momento.

  Este segundo artículo de la trilogía se corresponde con el estudio de la segunda etapa de la discapacidad: el modelo médico (modelo moderno-rehabilitador). En esta etapa, se consolida el saber científico por encima incluso de Dios. Los expertos (médicos) son los que diagnostican qué sucede y pautarán el tratamiento que debe seguir el paciente.

  Sirviéndonos de la referencia a los «tres monos sabios », catalogamos esta etapa como la de no oír porque son estos expertos (médicos) los únicos competentes en la materia, sin tener en cuenta la vivencia del individuo sobre su propia situación, que por mucho que sea el que la sufre, al no ser experto, no se le deja opinar sobre su propia vida. Dicha etapa se extiende en el tiempo desde el fin de la anterior etapa (desde el fin del Renacimiento en el siglo XVI), donde da comienzo un tipo diferente de sociedad con el inicio de la Edad Moderna; y cuyas ideas perduran hasta nuestros días actuales.

  This work is part of a trilogy of articles in which each of the three stages of the social process of disability will be seen in detail, delving into the concept that one had / has of it in each era and the terms with which that the persons carrying that condition were designated / designated. We will see that all this justified, and continues to justify, the practices to which this group is subjected, always in accordance with a certain prevailing social norm at all times.

  This second article of the trilogy corresponds to the study of the second stage of disability: the medical model (modern-rehabilitating model). At this stage, scientific knowledge is consolidated above even God. The experts (doctors) are the ones who diagnose what happens and will guide the treatment that the patient must follow.

  Using the reference to the "three wise monkeys ", we classify this stage as that of not hearing because these experts (doctors) are the only ones competent in the matter, without taking into account the individual's experience of their own situation, that no matter how much the one who suffers from it, being not an expert he is not allowed to have an opinion on his own life. This stage extends in time from the end of the previous stage (from the end of the Renaissance in the 16th century), where a different type of society begins with the beginning of the Modern Age; and whose ideas persist to this day.
