Resumen de Cartas, recensiones y una imagen de El apando

José Manuel Mateo

  • Interest in the biography and the cinematographic activity of José Revueltas has increased in recent years. This article adds to what is known about Revueltas, drawing from four archival materials: two letters written by the poet Carlos Eduardo Turón, a letter addressed to Revueltas by María Teresa Retes (the novelist's second wife) and the script of El apando written by Turón when Revueltas was still incarcerated in the Lecumberri prison due to his participation in the student movement of 1968. In addition to providing some details about the friendship between Turón and Revueltas, this essay sheds light on the paradoxes of the self-representation of those who consider themselves to be on the aesthetic margins; equally important, this article seeks to direct the gaze, if only briefly, onto literature that, despite being out of circulation, attracts us, even when it comes to preliminary, truncated or mutilated pieces, as is the case of the script written by Turón.
