In the 80s the articles about teachers education began to appear replete of references to one author - Donald Schön - references that, at the turn of the decade had enhanced in such a way that Schön justifies reviews thematic numbers today, and he constitutes an obligatory reference to may teachers educators. Which is the value of Donald Schön? This article establishes this importance from the analyse of fundamental concepts developed by the author in the books: The reflective practitioner; Educating the reflective practioner and Theory and practice: increasing professional effectiveness. Arranging them in three current themes to the teachers education - the essential professional for nowadays, the theory and practice relation in the teacher education, the reflection and the education for the reflection - put Donald Schön in the movement that valorize the practice epistemology in the teacher professional development processes.

Nos anos oitenta, os artigos sobre formação de professores começaram a aparecer repletos de referência a um autor - Donald Schön - referências essas que, no virar da década, se intensificaram tanto que Schön chega a justificar hoje números temáticos de revistas de especialidade e constitui para muitos formadores de professores uma referência obrigatória. Qual a importância de Donald Schön? O presente artigo situa essa importância a partir de análise dos conceitos fundamentais desenvolvidos pelo autor nos livros The reflective practioner, Educating the reflective practioner e Theory and practice: increasing Professional effectiveness. Agrupando-os em três temas atuais para a formação de professores - o profissional necessário para os dias de hoje, a relação teoria e prática na formação, a reflexão e a educação para a reflexão - situa Donald Schön no movimento que valoriza a epistemologia da prática nos processos de desenvolvimento profissional do professor.
