To answer the question “why and for what study Latin American ideas and thought?”, this presentation defends three motivations. First, a need of recognize the value of ideas and culture. Second, to affirm the option for the periphery, considering that there has been for centuries an “epistemicide”. Third, the option to investigate mainly the most romantic, “populist” expressions in the thinking of the global periphery.

Para responder à pergunta “por quê e para que fazer estudos das ideias e do pensamento latino-americano?”, esta apresentação defende três motivações. Em primeiro lugar, a necessidade de valorizar as ideias e a cultura. Em segundo lugar, de afirmar a opção pela periferia, pela consideração de que ocorre há séculos um “epistemicídio”. Em terceiro lugar, a opção por investigar principalmente as expressões mais românticas, “populistas” no pensamento da periferia global.
