  • Resumen
    • The presentation of Christ as hero and the concept of fealty in Old Anglo Saxon and Old Saxon texts have been explained with the needs of missionary accom-modation. The article reconsiders this explanation: First of all, the imagination of a more active, heroic Christ was already taken up in exegesis from late antiquity. Se-condly, the epic-heroic terminology is dependent on the genre. In the Old English Prose Guthlac, the terminology of fealty is absent; in Guthlac B the hero’s death is described in epic-heroic style.
