Mariana Mazzucato’s The Value of Everything: Making and Taking in the Global Economy partly takes its inspiration from the history of economic thought, particularly classical economics. This essay assesses that history of thought dimension of the book, with a particular view to clarifying the meaning of a concept upon which the author bases much of her critical analysis: ‘unproductive’ activity.
