  S’ha desenvolupat un mètode objectiu per determinar la raresa dels minerals, fonamentat en aspectes quantitatius, que permet la seva classificació sistemàtica. Així, s’ha partit de dades característiques de cada mineral i que no estan sotmeses a canvis, si més no, importants: la fórmula química que el descriu i l’abundància a l’escorça terrestre dels elements que la conformen. Això ofereix una potent eina, sobretot als col·leccionistes, per valorar la seva col·lecció a partir d’un paràmetre quantitatiu, classificable, consistent, unívoc i de simple obtenció, l’índex de raresa, iR. A més, l’article aprofundeix en la informació que aporta aquest índex i explora les possibilitats que proporciona la seva aplicació en el col·leccionisme de minerals.

  An objective method has been developed to determine the rarity of minerals, based on quantitative aspects, which will be useful for their systematic classification.

  This method is based on some characteristics of each mineral and which are not subject to important changes:
