The paper is a reading of Francesco Senatore’s Una citta, il Regno: istituzioni e società a Capua nel XV secolo, Roma 2018. Moving from the analysis conducted by Senatore on the urban society of a celebrated city in the XV century, the essay aims to discuss three major points: the long-standing comparison between northern and southern cities in Italy; the evolution of the Universitas as an articulation of the Reign; the barons and their presence within the walls of the city
