Un segundo manuscrito con la primera traducción al español de los cuatro libros confucianos hecha por Ruggieri, hallado en Taiwán

    En 1590 el jesuita italiano Michael Ruggieri hizo en Madrid la primera traducción al español de las principales obras confucianas a petición de Felipe II, traducción que se conserva en la Biblioteca del Escorial. Nuestro trabajo presenta el hallazgo de un segundo manuscrito idéntico al anterior que se halla en la Biblioteca de la Universidad Nacional de Taiwán, y del que intentamos dar razón de su origen a través de una comparación textual de ambos manuscritos. A su vez, la observación de errores, correcciones, lapsus, etc., no solo nos permite entender mejor el texto del Escorial, sino concluir que el manuscrito de Taiwán fue hecho por el mismo Ruggieri tras copiar el anterior antes de ser entregado al rey.

    In 1590, at the request of Philip II, the Italian Jesuit Michael Ruggieri produced, the first Spanish translation of Confucius’ principal texts. This translation is preserved in the Library of the Royal Monastery of the Escorial. Our work presents the finding of a second manuscript, identical to the one in the Escorial, but held in the Library of the National Taiwan University. This article will attempt to account for the genesis of this second manuscript through a comparative analysis of both. The identification of errors, corrections, lapses, etc., will not only allow us to better understand the Escorial manuscript, but also to conclude that it was Ruggieri who produced the one held in Taiwan, having copied the other one before offering it to the king.
